Waipak is leading the change in New Zealand towards sustainable plastic solutions, committed to closing the loop on recycling. Based in Hastings, Waipak operates with a team of 15-25 full-time employees (FTEs), driving innovation in eco-friendly plastic products that support a circular economy.
Project Objectives
- Improve teamwork and culture to create an unstoppable, high-performing team.
- Upskill key staff on the impact of waste and downtime on production.
- Enhance OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and increase the throughput of bottles per hour.
Our Solution
The Lean Hub partnered with Waipak to improve team collaboration, instill key manufacturing disciplines, and upskill staff in lean methodologies. Through targeted training and process reviews, we worked to reduce waste, eliminate downtime, and optimise overall equipment effectiveness. A key focus was fostering a culture of continuous improvement and equipping staff with the skills to drive operational efficiency.
Key Outcomes
- Stronger Team Culture
Enhanced collaboration and communication led to a more cohesive and efficient workforce. - Improved Manufacturing Disciplines
Since working with The Lean Hub, Waipak has seen significant improvements in basic manufacturing practices, leading to higher product quality and better weekly output. - Increased Efficiency
Staff awareness of waste and downtime resulted in reduced inefficiencies across production. - Higher OEE and Throughput
Optimised processes led to improved OEE and an increased number of bottles produced per hour.
With The Lean Hub’s guidance, Waipak improved their production efficiency, team culture, and output quality, further solidifying their role as leaders in sustainable plastic solutions.
