"Through the modules and the coaching from The Lean Hub facilitator, we are now seeing measurable gains, reduced setup times, improved workflow and faster turnaround."
In CNC engineering, accuracy and turnaround time are critical. Every minute on the shop floor counts, and the business needed systems that would keep it competitive.
Setting up a CNC machine can take anything from an hour to a full day, and some parts go through six or seven stages. Every minute lost to setups and tool changes is a minute the machines aren’t making money. Like the rest of the industry, CNC Machining Co faces real skills shortages, so developing and keeping the team they already have matters as much as the machines.
The team worked through the NZQA New Zealand Certificate in Lean and Operational Excellence, delivered inside the business and contextualised to each employee’s own workplace and role. Coaching from our facilitator embedded the learning directly into their production workflows.
Our facilitator connected with everyone from machinists to office staff, so the whole team understood how their work affects the bigger picture, the strategy and the KPIs. The team watched how often tool changes happened and how long they took, then moved everything into one zone. The guys no longer walk back and forth across the factory, saving two to three hours of downtime every week. The next project, a single-point clamping system for the mills, came straight from the team.
